Ukraine plans to appeal to the arbitration court if Poland refuses to settle the problem of reducing the number of international car permits for transportation.
A small conflict between the capitals of Ukraine and Poland over the shortage of car permits for cargo transportation can be smoothed out by agreement, without arbitration. This statement was made to Ukrainian journalists by Poland's representative to the EU Andrzej Sados, who met with them on January 20.
Before that, the Ukrainian side was going to solve everything through arbitration, provided Poland refused to settle the problem of reducing the number of international permits, since this would be a violation of the clause of the Association Agreement with the EU by one of the states. Kiev even asked for advice to get acquainted with the necessary actions to prepare for the trial.
Andrzej Sados said that they are aware of Ukraine's plans to start arbitration. He confirmed the existence of a problem and debate between the countries.
It is also known that the European Union should act as a defendant in the case of a trial, since Ukraine has declared a violation of not only bilateral agreements.
A representative of the Polish side said: "We really hope to find the best way out of the situation at the expert level. Anything is possible."
At the end of 2021, Andrei Kubrakov, Minister of Infrastructure, said that over the past 5-6 years, the volume of trade turnover between the states has doubled. But at the same time, the number of permits for cargo transportation from Poland decreased by 40,000 per year.
